Add Page Numbers to a PDF Document

Insert page numbers at the top or bottom of every page in your PDF. Choose position (left, centre, right), starting number, and see a live first-page preview. Runs in your browser with PDF.js and pdf-lib — your file is not uploaded.

How it works

1. Click Choose PDF file (or click anywhere in the box), drag your PDF in, or paste Ctrl+V (⌘V on Mac).
2. Set position and starting number — the preview badge moves as you change options.
3. Click Add page numbers, then download the new PDF. Use Different PDF to start over.

Tips for best results

• PDFs must be under 64 MB. Unlock password-protected PDFs before using this tool.
• Bottom-centre is the most common position for academic and business documents.
• Every page is numbered in order from your starting value, including blank pages.

Frequently asked questions

Can I start numbering from a specific number?

Yes - set the starting number (e.g. start at 5 if this document continues from a previous section).

Are Roman numerals supported?

Currently Arabic numerals are supported. Roman numeral support is planned.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No — preview and numbering run entirely in your browser.
